After ending 2021 with the highest prices seen all year, 2022 is off to a record breaking start! January saw scrap car prices with CarTakeBack rise by a modest amount, making them the highest average values seen. It’s a great time to cash in and scrap your car.
January’s average price for scrap cars was up by 1% compared to December. As well as increasing month on month, prices were up by 31% compared to January 2021, that’s an increase of £65 year on year. We’re hopeful that these top scrap car prices will maintain throughout the winter.
Many factors can influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for metals and parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
Throughout all of 2021, the Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack and January 2022 was no exception! The average scrap value of a Ford Focus in January increased from £288 to £295, that’s up by 2% compared to December.
There’s been no change to the order of the top five cars scrapped for the last five months.
The Vauxhall Corsa and the Renault Clio saw the largest percentage increases, both up by 4% compared to the previous month.
