After a slight decline to scrap car prices in November, we saw the year out with an increase!
Scrap car prices in December were just 1% higher than those in November. To add to the month on month increase, prices for scrap cars were up by 29% compared to December 2021, which is increase of £77 year on year! It’s a great time to sell your scrap car whilst prices are back on top.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even the location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was again the Ford Focus. In December the average scrap value of a Ford Focus was £378. That’s an increase of 1.8% compared to the average value in November.
All vehicles in the top 5 saw a drop in value in November. The Ford Fiesta saw the largest decrease, however it had increased by 11% in October, so the November price returns to that seen in September. The smallest loss was for the Vauxhall Zafira, which still holds just above a £400 average value.
