Scrap car prices in 2022 got off to a strong start and February saw things improve further! It’s another record breaking month for scrap car prices with CarTakeBack, with the average value of a scrap car at the highest levels ever seen in the UK.
If you cashed in on your scrap car in February the average price was 5% higher than those on offer in January – that’s around a £13 increase. As well as increasing month on month, scrap car prices were up by 38% compared to February 2021, that’s a considerable increase of £77 year on year. We’re hopeful that these top scrap car prices will maintain into the spring.
There are many factors that influence the scrap value of a car, such as the global demand for metals and reusable parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
For the first time in over a year, the most frequently scrapped car wasn’t the Ford Focus, in February the top spot was taken by the Vauxhall Corsa. The average scrap value of a Vauxhall Corsa in February was £269. That’s up by 3% compared to the average value in January.
It’s a great time to sell your Vauxhall Astra as it saw the largest percentage increase to its value, up by 6% compared to the previous month.
