After reporting a rise in scrap car prices month on month since February this year, June has seen a very slight drop to prices. The prices are just 1% lower than the bumper prices we saw in May. The average price being paid for a scrap car in June 2019 was 31% higher than the prices we saw in June 2018.
The prices on offer for scrap cars are still at a great level, just 1% less than the top prices seen this year. So if you need to scrap your car, now is a great time to cash in!
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.
We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

This month we’re taking a closer look at when the prices on offer for scrap cars fall. The last time that prices fell was earlier this year in February 2019. Similarly to this month, the prices only fell ever so slightly, by just 2%. The prices then bounced back in March and have been climbing since then!
To find out how much your car is worth just tell us your car registration and postcode, then you’ll see how much your car is worth as scrap instantly! Your price for seven days, giving you time to think, plus, if the scrap metal value dropped in the meantime, you’d still get the best price.
