With the current uncertainty around the increase in cases of Coronavirus cases in the UK, we were hopeful that the prices paid for scrap cars would at least maintain into September, however we’re happy to be reporting that the prices have actually increased! In September, scrap car prices were up 4% compared to August, and were up 6% compared to September 2019.
Many factors can affect the value of your scrap car, including the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, and location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped in September was the Ford Focus, as it was in August. The average age of the Focuses scrapped was 16 years and the average scrap value was £143, a drop of £2 compared to last month.
There have been some slight movements in the values of the top five cars scrapped compared to last month. This month the Vauxhall Corsa has seen the biggest increase of 7% compared to August’s value.
